Does the butter go into the fridge or on the counter?

So I’m a nail technician and went to a clients home to do her nails. Guys as I was leaving I noticed her butter standing on the kitchen counter and asked her if I can pop it into the fridge. Her response was “NO, I always leave it out”. How can you leave butter out? No come on now!”
